Manually deleting Incremental and Full backup files

Hi,

We currently experienced that the backup size is reaching the limit of our storage.
In our setting we have two weeks retention.
What we do to free up space is to delete the 1st week full backup chain manually.
My question now is what happens when someone tries to do a restore from the Veeam interface which still thinks that it has a backup of the first week...

do any of you do this and what is the correct way of cleaning up storage?
what happens to the backup chain file does it gets corrupted?

we are using VBR 6.5

any help would be much appreciated.

You will get an error message saying that the restore point cannot be found and the restore will fail.

Adjust the retention policy settings to clean up Veeam configuration db and your target repository.

what happens to the backup chain file does it gets corrupted?

If you delete the entire backup chain (Full + Increments) and not just individual increments, then everything will be fine.
