What happens when job is interrupted?

Post by pizang »

I have a question regarding closing VCB proxy/Veeam server during backup. As someone said stopping veeam is like stopping a train :). I know that this is how it should be as Veaam has to clean up everything. But what happens when I force shutdown? it is possible when for example power outage occurs. Are previous backups still intact? Is there a chance that it may break whole job?

It is good comparison indeed :)

Stopping job: there's no chance of backup corruption in this case if you let it finish correctly. Latest state will remain invalid (incomplete), but you will be able to restore to previous states without any issues. Actual VBK file will be "restored" to the previous state during the next job cycle (before the actual backup starts).

Crashing job: killing VeeamAgent process, hard resetting Veeam Backup server, power outage etc. - there's slight chance of backup corruption (one customer has even quantified it to 25% based on his own short crash testing  ), but this is resolved with transactional backup storage in Veeam Backup 4.0.

Does this answer your question?

Well, definitely not all - I still have over 100 pending features in the feature tracking system - but it will indeed resolve 90% of most irritating problems and most common feature requests.
