import backup

Post by daniel.Soares »

Hello I have a question concerning the import backup option
I have old v5 veeam BR whitch does not backup anymore but we need to be able to restore vms or files from those backups
I have a new v6 veeam BR which will be used to do those restores
our infrastructure will migrate from 4.1 to 5.0 soon

there is an information that I do not understand in the documentation: see bellow

Click OK to import the selected backup. The imported backup data will be stored under the original backup job name with the _imported suffix appended.

I understand that no data will be transfered to the v6 server (only a new job in the application)
but what happends on the source server?
data will be transformed ? if yes does that process takes a long time?
new data will be added? if yes which type of data and what is the estimation growth?

Daniel, imported backup files are not touched on importing. All Veeam B&R versions are able to "understand" backup files created by previous versions even in case the backup file format has changed between versions.
