Restore VMs to different processors

Post by usv »

for example:

i have two esxi hosts 1) based on Xeon 5xxx (4 core). 2) based on Opteron 8 core.
One of them has been fully destroyed. I need to restore VMs from backup to another host/

It may cause problems ? How did you dicided this problem with different processor architecture?

This is why virtualization was created in the first place ;) to remove hardware dependencies.
CPU or other hardware does not matter, any VM can be started on any host at all.

Serg, probably you are thinking about vMotion, that has indeed some limitations to migrate "running" VM from one host to another.
But restores and all the operations involving powered-off VMs do not have those limitations.
