B&R V6.5 P3 - Proxy on remote site

Post by EddyMandemaker »

Hello,
I have a setup a B&R server on main site, doing B&R tasks for the local ESXi servers, storing the backups on local NAS box at main site.
I have a remote site with 1 ESXi server, one B&R proxy server (Win7 pro - installed via B&R server at main site) and one NAS box local at remote site.
I thought that i could start a backup job at main site, doing a VM backup from remote ESXi server onto the remote NAS box storage via the remote B&R proxy server. BUT the throughput is not that ... around 7 - 8 MB
What am I missing, where did I go wrong.
thanks for the feedback
Regards

Eddy, first I would make sure that the remote proxy server is effectively selected for that job. Proxy server name is available in the job statistics window if clicking on the particular VM to the left.

Also, bottleneck stats could help identify the issue.

Hello,
it says 'using source proxy 10.10.1.212' which is the ip address of proxy server at remote site

And what about bottleneck stats and transport mode being used?

That means that source storage data retrieval speed is a bottleneck. Am I understanding right, that the remote proxy is a VM residing on the same host and having access to the datastore with VMs you are backing up? Is there a chance that you are backing up the proxy VM itself? What transport mode is being used to read the VMs data from the storage (available right in the same job stats window next to the proxy name)?

the proxy is not a VM, Physical Win7 dekstop. Transport mode is via NBD (network mode)
Maybe we have a switch problem at the remote site, because I see 100MB links ...
I will sort this out, maybe this can cause slow rates ?

Well, with 100Mbit link you can hardly get more than 12,5 MB/s network throughput. What is the actual speed of VM disks reading (not the overall job processing rate, which is just the average speed of processing of all VMs in the job calculated as total amount of processed data divided by the time the job took to finish)?

Hello,
it was a bad cable into the proxy server, now I have 1Gb uplink and performance boosts to 60Mbit and more ...
So ALL GOOD and .. tnx Alexander (Foggy)
