SAP running on sql in windows environment

Post by terrance101 »

Hey all,

our company is looking to move to a replicated environment with our sap servers. So we are using vmware for our images and the idea is that if we have our main site go down (just our sap server with sql databases running) we redirect to our other site and get up and running within a few minutes. Has anyone here with a similar setup implemented this in their work environment? And if so, what are the issues to look out for?

Hi,
at the highest level, probably the best solution would be to have two active SQL servers replicating data each other via different tools SQL offers, from creating a SQL cluster to Log Shipping.
Instead, if you are thinking about replicating the SAP VMs with Veeam, usually we create replica jobs with mandatory VSS activated ("application aware backups" in Veeam terms) so that SQL server (I suppose you are talking about MS SQL on Windows...) is duplicated in a consistent state.

Other than that, no special configuration needed, and usual replica configuration and design practices apply.

In order to understand more you might want to see the existing topic regarding backing up/replicating SQL best practices.

Hope this helps.
Thanks
