Hi,

Can someone tell me what the relevance of the entry in the list of network objects that ends with "/4000" is?

For example, I have 2 on board NIC's along with a 4 port LAN extension on my host giving a total of 6 LAN ports.

When I view the Network monitor for a VM (WEB01) on this host, I see the following entries under the Object column:

WEB01/vmnic0
WEB01/vmnic1
WEB01/vmnic2
WEB01/vmnic3
WEB01/vmnic4
WEB01/vmnic5
WEB01/4000

As far as I’m concerned, these numbers are supposed to indicate different virtual adapters in multihomed VMs.

For instance,

• ethernet0 – 4000
• ethernet1 – 4001

The same numbers can be also seen in vSphere client: Performance tab -> Advanced -> Network
