SureBackup Masquerade Question

Post by CaterhamKing »

Hi,

With a site that has a class A network configured, 10.x.x.x / 255.0.0.0, I would like to know what to configure as the masquerade address in SureBackup? I have tried a number of different networks, all give this error "Specified mask parameter is invalid (MasqueradeNetworkAddress & Mask) != MasqueradeNetworkAddress"

10.0 does work, which is then converted to 10.B.C.D. Not sure this would be right though. Any feedback appreciated.

If it’s A class network, why not just to change the first IP block, then?

Production: 10.x.x.x / 255.0.0.0
Masquerade: 11.x.x.x / 255.0.0.0

Thanks.

I agree, but that is what gave the error: Specified mask parameter is invalid (MasqueradeNetworkAddress & Mask) != MasqueradeNetworkAddress

You can then OK that, and go back to the same screen asking for Masquerade address :(

I know it's not related to Veeam, but any chance you can shrink that subnet? an 8 bit subnet has also huge problems with broadcasts and ARP tables... do you really need to keep it so large?

(MasqueradeNetworkAddress & Mask) != MasqueradeNetworkAddress
Strange error, indeed, since even the simple math suggests that everything is specified correctly:
Masquerade Address: 11.0.0.0
Netmask: 255.0.0.0
Masquerade Address & Netmask: 11.0.0.0
Binary math:

Code: Select all

00001011.00000000.00000000.00000000
&
11111111.00000000.00000000.00000000
=
00001011.00000000.00000000.00000000
So, it's a high time you opened a ticket with our support team, letting them investigate it directly. Thanks.

I’m wondering whether you have taken some additional steps to make it work, or you’ve just specified the aforesaid parameters and everything went, as expected. Thanks.

No, just the usual steps. I have no idea what we did first time round, but as soon as I edited the lab and put this masquerade in it worked :) Honestly, I think it was our fault.
