Incorrect disk space usage reported from ESXi 4

Post by DiPersiaTech »

First off - we just loaded up Veeam Monitor and WOW! Fantastic! Great work guys!

We found one issue that concerned us. After loading up a few VMs, we noticed the disk space usage was incorrect, at least on one host. It showed a total capacity of 409 GB, and free space of 408.5 GB. Can't be we said, since we're running guests on that box!

So we log into VCI and check disk space in there. Sure enough, same exact number - 409 and 408.5. THEN we did a refresh in VCI and it reported the correct numbers. Came back to Veeam Monitor and it also showed the correct numbers.

Anyway, disk space is a big function we want to monitor - does it only report back what VCI is reporting (As of its last update) or are we missing something? Seems like a bug somewhere.

Running Veeam monitor free 4.5.0.189, and ESXi 4.0.0, 175625

Technically speaking, Monitor and VIC are absolutely identical. Both are "client" apps obtaining data directly from "server" app (ESXi host) via the same API. I think it was just a coincidence with VIC Refresh. ESXi updates all performance data by itself, you do not need to connect to VIC with it and hit Refresh for the update to happen.

OK. Will keep an eye on it. We're also due to update our ESXi host, so maybe there's something in an update.
