Change Veeam Service "Log on as"

Post by cstemaly »

The following Services on my Veeam Backup and Replication server are currently set to "domain\Administrator" in the "Log on as" field:
Veeam Backup and Replication Service
Veeam Backup Catalog Data Service
Veeam Backup Enterprise Manager

I would like to create a new service account and use that account instead, but am unsure of the requirements for that account (or accounts).
Can I use an account that is a member of the server's local admin group?

Hello,

Yes, it should be sufficient. Also make sure you take a look at our User Guide (page 77) for more details on the required permissions for the service account.

Thanks!

[MERGED] service account

Post by ThinkGrid »

Hi

Currently I use local administrator account for the veeam service (not sure if my own choice or Veeam forced me). I changed the password on account and backups failed due to service having old password

Is there anything stopping Veeam running using Local System account as this would stop me from having the above issues going forward. Cheers

Hello,

Please check that service account has sufficient permissions (see the link above). As to your error above, make sure you do not use old password in connection settings to vCenter Server.

Thank you!

Hi.

You can use a local account (computer management - local users and groups) instead of domain account.
No need for domain account for the services veeam runs - it is also safer for the case when DC might be unavailable and you need to start restore as quickly as possible and not troubleshoot AD logon problems for starting the backup software.

Domain account can and should be normally defined in "guest processing" of the backup/replica job, but not needed for the services.

Set the account with "password never expires" if needed.

Well yes...you can, if this account has access to your Veeam SQL Server database.

Local System Account is a built-in windows account and I use the SQL that comes with Veeam so, from design perspective you guys should know the answer to the question

Does the buit-in windows 'Local System Account' have access to the SQL that is installed by Veeam by default ?

Thanks

According to the previous discussion, you shouldn’t face any issues while running Veeam Service under Local System Account. Thanks
