nWorks and Databases Information

Post by felyjos »

Hello,

I have several VMs hosting SQL databases. The VMs do not have a SCOM Agent as they are reporting to SCOM through nWorks.
Is nWorks able to provide information about the databases, instances, etc... size, logs, etc...
Ant limitation? differences between a standard SCOM agent reports and nWorks report?

Thanks,
Dom

Hello Dom,

To get such detailed information on SQL databases, you should deploy the Ops Mgr agent inside these VMs and use the SQL Management Pack from Microsoft (it is free :) )
With the Veeam MP you get detailed information on the VM itself. And we can get some information from inside the virtual OS, for example disk space on C:\ drive (VMware Tools supplies this). But we cannot get deeper information on applications such as SQL - for that, the Ops Mgr agent deployed inside the VM is the best method.

Our MP can also integrate that information (after you have deployed the Ops Mgr agent), so that agent will join our VMware topology. You will see it attached underneath the VM. That way you will see the entire end-to-end picture from vSphere Cluster - Host - VM - SQL, or as I like to say 'from the Datacenter to the Database' :D
