Hi,
In my Main Site i have HP 4500 SAN. But currently no snapshot are setup. All my VM's are in this SAN.
Noticed that i can backup VM's from the San Snapshot and its a better solution.
So in high level how do i setup my backup and set the replication.
1. Setup HP SAN snapshot and keep 5 days in SAN or 1 day?
2. Set VEEAM serve to backup from these Snapshot?
3. set replication as normal?

Re: HP 4500 SAN Backup
It depends on amount of total free space, as snapshots will use some of it.1. Setup HP SAN snapshot and keep 5 days in SAN or 1 day?
If possible - I recommend keeping snapshots for 7 days.
But you should monitor cluster space allocation and not go over 80%.
If needed - reduce snapshots to about 3 days (assuming 1 snap a day).
This feature isn't currently available - will be introduced in Veeam V7, and only within enterprise plus edition.2. Set VEEAM serve to backup from these Snapshot?
This will allow you to use snapshot as source for reading, and to backup to a different repository as target.
However - even with the free Veeam edition you can restore from snapshots stored on the SAN itself,
but this is not replacement for backup - just an additional way to get information from point in time.
Yes - and make sure that replication target (and backup also) are stored in repository which is NOT on the same SAN!3. set replication as normal?

Re: HP 4500 SAN Backup
As mentioned, it will be possible with the upcoming version of Veeam Backup and Replication. However, even now you might want to use Veeam SAN Explorer SAN in order to restore granular data (file/application item) or VM as a whole directly from SAN snapshots.Set VEEAM serve to backup from these Snapshot?
Thanks.
