Veeam7 Linux VM's

Post by kennocha »

Hi all,

Anyone else having issues with veeam backups not working with Linux vm's? Here is what it looks like.

Code: Select all

8/15/2013 3:40:49 PM :: Queued for processing at 8/15/2013 3:40:49 PM
8/15/2013 3:40:50 PM :: Required backup infrastructure resources have been assigned
8/15/2013 3:54:19 PM :: VM processing started at 8/15/2013 3:54:19 PM
8/15/2013 3:54:19 PM :: VM size: 250.0 GB (32.3 GB used)
8/15/2013 3:54:19 PM :: Preparing to create snapshot
8/15/2013 3:54:19 PM :: Hyper-V Integration Services are not up to date
8/15/2013 3:54:19 PM :: Guest processing skipped (check guest OS VSS state and integration components version)
8/15/2013 3:54:19 PM :: Unable to create snapshot (Dell EqualLogic VSS HW Provider) (mode: Crash consistent). Details: Guest processing skipped (check guest OS VSS state and integration components version)
8/15/2013 3:54:20 PM :: Error: Guest processing skipped (check guest OS VSS state and integration components version)
8/15/2013 3:54:20 PM :: Network traffic verification detected no corrupted blocks
8/15/2013 3:54:20 PM :: Processing finished with errors at 8/15/2013 3:54:20 PM
This worked in veeam 6.5, so a bit curious. Am going to open a ticket as soon as I have full logs available.

As far as I can see from the session log, there is a problem with Hyper-V Integration Services on this VM. If this is not the case, we would need to investigate the debug logs. Thanks!

OK, so looks like you should disable application-aware processing for this VM in the advanced settings of the corresponding step of the wizard. Right now it is set to "Require success", which means that VM processing should fail out if guest processing fails.

In version 6.5, some of these options did not function correctly, which is why everything worked for you before the upgrade.

Yep, that got it backing up successfully.

According to my case # Eugene says that auto detection of Linux VMs will be implemented negating this workaround in the future.

Yes, I asked this to be included in the first patch. Guest processing for any OS that does not support VSS will be skipped automatically, no matter of job settings.

Any update with this problem. I upgraded to vrsion 7 yesterday and now 9 of my virtual machines failed only one was running Linux.

What is discussed in this topic is a job configuration issue, not a product issue. You should disable guest processing for VMs that do not support VSS. In future versions, we are planning to skip those automatically, regardless of the job settings, to make life simpler.

[MERGED] Problem backing up a linux VM on free version

Post by davids355 »

Hi guys,
Firstly, Im not sure if I can get support with free version of VEEM? And I know in the forum rules it says I must open a support case first, but can I do this in the free version?
Basically I am trying to back up a linux VM in Hyper-V and I am getting a "completed with warnings". The warning says that guest processing was skipped. I tried backing up again and turning off quiescence but it still gave me the warning.
Is this something to worry about?

I guess you did not read the entire rules, because they also explain that you CAN do this with the free version ;)
The case will be handled based on support staff availability (response is not guaranteed).
