Backup to Tape

Post by rogerdu »

Since this is a questions concerning VBR 6.5, I want to ensure I have the right procedure.

I've been asked to use another product to commit weekly fulls to tape until we can upgrade to VBR7 (later this year). My thought was to setup a policy usign HP Data Protector that will commit the .vbk and .vbm file to tape after teh synthetic full has been created (every Sunday in the wee hours). Corporate policy has stipulated weekly fulls and monthly fulls to be kept for varying lengths of time, but both offsite on tape.

Am I correct in assuming that the .vbm and .vbk files are all that is required to be able to import a backup image in the distant future should it be required?

Thanks in advance.

Roger, yes, you are correct. Having .vbm and .vbk files on tape you will be able to import them into Veeam B&R console and restore any time later. Thanks.

Just wanted to add that even if you lose the vbm file, you will still be able to import your vbk files to the backup console.
