Can you set the default backup compression to use Optimal?
Default to reverse incremental?
I read pages around 471 but didnt find anything.

Never read that pages, but you can clone a job and use that as a template.

Yes, there is no other way to define your own default settings apart from using a "template" job or creating jobs using a PowerShell script.
