Re: Guest processing skipped (check VMware Tools status)
I’m wondering what type of VM it is. Windows-based or Linux-based one? Also, what type of quiescence is being used? VMware Tools or Application Aware Image Processing? Moreover, have you already tried to update VMware tools to the most recent version and see whether it helps or not? Thanks.

The most of the VM's are Linux-based Debian.v.Eremin wrote:I’m wondering what type of VM it is. Windows-based or Linux-based one? Also, what type of quiescence is being used? The VMware Tools are not installed in Linux

Re: Guest processing skipped (check VMware Tools status)
What about quiescence settings? Is the option called “Enable VMware tools quiescence” ticked in the advanced storage setting of this job (settings -> storage -> Advanced -> vSphere)? Thanks.

Re: Guest processing skipped (check VMware Tools status)
May I ask you, then, to install VMware Tools on, at least, on one VM in question and see whether it addresses this issue or not?
Thanks.
This option guarantee that Linux-based VMs will be freezed prior to being backed up. This option can be enabled, once the VMware tools are installed.Could i enable it?
Thanks.

Re: Guest processing skipped (check VMware Tools status)
The other option is to disable Application-Aware Image Processing for your Linux VMs or for the whole job, if it contains only VMs of that type.

Re: Guest processing skipped (check VMware Tools status)
Hi
Sorry to add to this tread but I am having the same problem.
Except the 3 VM that have the warning are windows based with VMWare tools quiescence enabled and (according to vSphere) VMware tools is up to date.
Any ideas on what else i should check?
Many thanks
Alex

Re: Guest processing skipped (check VMware Tools status)
Hi, Alex.
You might want to reinstall VMware tools and see whether it solves the issue or open a ticket with our support team and let them investigate it directly. Also, I’m wondering why you’re using VMware Tools quiescence for Windows-based VM. Do they run special applications that need to be frozen by pre-freeze/post-thaw scripts?
Thanks.

Did any of the suggestions work? I'm seeing this on a couple Windows servers with VMWare Tools installed and running as well.AlexD wrote:Hi

Re: Guest processing skipped (check VMware Tools status)
VMware tools status is retrieved via vSphere API, based on my own experience re-installing VMware tools usually help in this situation. BTW, do you also use VMWare tools quiescence and not application-aware image processing for your Windows VMs?

Re: Guest processing skipped (check VMware Tools status)
Hi all.
Sorry for the late reply been a bit busy recently.
I reinstalled VMWare Tools on all 3 VMs but it hasnt seemed to work.
I have checked the Backup properties and under "Storage" > "Advance" > "vSphere" it has "Enable VMWare Tools quiescence", "Use changed block tracking data" and "Enable CBT for all protected VMs automatically" ticked and under "Guest Processing" it has both "Enable application-aware image processing" and "Enable guest file system indexing" ticked. (I don't know if any of this will help).
I would also like to ad that these VMs backup up sucessfully in V6

Re: Guest processing skipped (check VMware Tools status)
Hi, Alex. If these are Windows-based Virtual Machines, there is no need to enable VMware Tools quiescence. Thanks.

Re: Guest processing skipped (check VMware Tools status)
Ah yeah sorry. I forgot to mention that there is one linux machine in the backup too.
We only have one backup job for all our vms at the moment but we are going to be splitting them up in a couple of weeks.

Re: Guest processing skipped (check VMware Tools status)
Actually, when both options are specified, Windows based machines should be backed up in Application Aware mode and you shouldn’t have any notification about VMware quiescence whatsoever, since this mode isn’t even utilized in this case.
So, it seems that for some reason VB&R tried to quiesce Windows machines via VMware Tools, even though Application Aware Image Processing was enabled. Thus, it might be worth opening a ticket with support team and letting them investigate it directly.
Thanks.

Re: Guest processing skipped (check VMware Tools status)
Has anyone figured out a solution to this? I've got a Win 7 machine that tries to run VMWare Tools quiescence and constantly tells me to check my WMWare Tools status, even though i don't have it ticked in the options - just Application-Aware image processing is selected. I've reinstalled VMWare tools about five times now. There is a Linux VM in the same job, if that helps. Veeam 7.0.0.764.

Re: Guest processing skipped (check VMware Tools status)
Hi
I just had the same thing happen to me. In my case I'm pretty sure the problem was that by default Windows 7--at least the one we use--puts the computer to sleep after 30 minutes. I assume this was causing VMware tools to appear to not be running.

Re: Guest processing skipped (check VMware Tools status)
Right, VM going into sleep mode definitely could be the reason of the guest processing failure.
