Backup Veeam and vCenter on same server

Hello all...I know I probably should have thought this out more thoroughly, but I installed vCenter and Veeam into the same VM (Windows 2K8) and was wondering what my options are to back it up?

Am I stuck with just making configuration backups of both products or can I get the whole VM easily with Veeam (i.e. can Veeam backup itself)?

I'm relatively new to Veeam and learning as I go.

Previously, there used to be issues with Veeam backing up itself, though, nowadays you shouldn’t face any of them. Moreover, v7 handles the process of vCenter backup more efficiently excluding vCenter databases from VSS processing. So, the scenario you’re talking about is totally supported.

Regarding backing up vcenter and its database - does this new functionality pertain to a remote SQL server as well?

I am still having issues trying to backup a remote vcenter database while using vcenter to browse/select the VM.

Yes, remote database case should also be addressed by the new functionality. Does the account under which vCenter is added to Veeam B&R console have sufficient rights to read the remote server registry?

I tried the following:
Gave account read access to SQL server registry - failed
Gave account read access to vcenter server registry - failed
Added account to local administrators group on SQL server - failed
Added account to local administrators group on vcenter server - failed
Added account to local administrators group on both servers - failed

Have you tried to re-add the vCenter server to Veeam B&R console after assigning those permissions to the account?

No, and just so I don't have to re-add 500 VMs back into jobs....

Are you purposing to remove the existing vcenter within VBR and re-add it?
Will this retain all job settings, etc?

Just want to make sure we are on the same page

If at the moment of adding vCenter to Veeam B&R there were no sufficient rights to the remote SQL server registry, vCenter server backup will be performed as it used to be with previous Veeam B&R versions. I'm not sure if support will be able to assist you in modifying Veeam B&R database to add the information required for backup of vCenter with remote SQL, but you can try to ask them.
