Using Veeam BU and R with Nimble Snapshots

Post by jason3k »

We are using Nimble snapshots and replication for DR purposes and it works very well. We are also evaluating Veeam BU and Replication to replicate our VMs to a local SAN so we will have some a fall back in case of a Nimble failure.

Unfortunately, there seems to be some issues when both systems are accessing the VMs for snapshots. Does anyone have any best practices for using Veeam with Nimble?

Thanks!!

Hi Jason,
I never used a Nimble Storage, but reading here (http://www.nimblestorage.com/solutions/ ... ection.php) seems Nimble can interact with vCenter to create VM-consistent snapshots, just like Veeam does. Two programs at the same time working on the same VM sounds to me indeed as a problem.
Do not know if Veeam has some best practices about this, but maybe the VM can also be snapshotted at the storage layer, without the integration with vCenter, and leave the vCenter interaction to Veeam only? Or have the two activities running at different times...

Luca.
