Tape erase methods

Hi,

with which method will tapes erase, if I choose the "Long erase (slow)" option at the menu?
Will the Date be overwrite with new Date (0 and 1, random data or so on???) ?

Hello Tanja,

Short erase option will clear tape metadata only and backup data will be overwitten, but this option is not supported by some tape devices. Long erase option will clear all data written to tape (meta data + backup data) - it is supported by all devices but takes longer than short erase.

Hello d.popov,

thank you. But with wich method the Backup data will be cleared?
I think Veeam B&R must overwrite the backup data with any method so that the tape will be clear after this procedure.
So, the question is: Which clearing methode will be used to delete the backup data?

If you select Long erase, the data will be zeroed out.
