From Patch 2 - Removed unintentional compression...

Post by mongie »

There is a line in the change log for Patch 2 that mentions unintentional compression...

Removed unintentional compression (and further uncompression) of data transferred between source and target data movers when both are running on the same server, and compression is disabled in the job settings.

Has anyone got any more details on excatly what the issue was here? I've been running backup copy jobs between my "backup" and "archive" repositories which are on the same dedupe appliance, and watching the steady increase of data that is stored (I have a feeling that there is some compression happening somewhere)...

The issue was that virtual disk data was compressed and immediately decompressed during inter-process communication, wasting CPU time for nothing. Now, it just flows uncompressed all the time.
