NAS bast practice for Backup copy job

Post by pcrebe »

Hi,
My NAS has Raid10 with small disks and i've bought big disks to change the old disks, but now i'd like to use Backup Copy job for a GFS rotation:

NAS 1 Raid 10 with few (8) restore points and small disks
NAS 2 Raid 10 with GFS rotation and big disks

Is this backup copy designed right? Or is better

NAS 1 Raid 10 with the big disks
NAS 2 Raid 5 with small disks

Thanks

Hi, Carlo,

Assuming I understand your deployment right, NAS#1 is going to be used as primary repository for local backup job, while NAS#2 as a secondary repository or, in other words, as a target for backup copy job, right?

If so, first scenario looks good to me – first device with the small disks to only hold few restore points in case quick file level or instant VM restore is needed and second appliance with huge disks that will guarantee long-term retention period.

Thanks.
