Best Hardware for Tape Backup

Post by tomWendt »

Hello all,
my hardware for the tape backup is

Server: PowerEdge R510 with one Emulex LPe12002-M8/2Port and Emulex LPe12002-e/2Port
Storage: Dell MD3600F
Library: Quantum Scalar i500 with one IBM Ultrium LTO5 tape drive

I have problems with the tape backup. It starts with 90 MB/s but after a short time the transferrate goes down to 2MB  . Our hardware vendor has no solution. So i plan to change the hardware from DELL to another one.

Bye

Hi, Tom, I'm wondering what type of tape jobs you're using (backup to tape/file to tape) and what the bottleneck statistics for this job are. Thanks.

It will be appreciated if you provide a little bit more data regarding bottleneck statistics and type of the job, so that, we can give, at least, some advice.

Thanks.
