Feature Request: add options in file copy job
Hi all,
I love this software but I can't find how to accomplish a simple task.
I need to backup a lot of files (office file sharing) from our nas storage to backup destination (using Veeam B&R) but I can't find how to filter out unnecessary files (eg. ~tmp files/snapshot folder,...).
It would be very useful to create "copy/exclude" lists using also wildcards (*,?) for files/folders.
Can you add these options in file copy job? It will be really appreciated.
Thanks and regards
AV

Re: Feature Request: add options in file copy job
I'm wondering what product edition you're using. If you're utilizing Cloud edition, then, this task can be easily achieved by creating a backup plan specifying required file masks. Thanks.

The question is what product edition, not version, you're using. So, do you have Veeam Cloud backup installed or not? Thanks.

Vladimir is asking whether you have Cloud Edition of Veeam B&R (it also could be Standard and has Essentials bundle available).

It's not Cloud Edition. It's "plain" Standard (essential) edition. We bought about one years ago.
Thanks and sorry for lack of my description.

[MERGED] Feature Reqest: File Copy job additions
Hi,
We would like the folowing features to be added to the File Copy job:
1) We would like to schedule a file copy job after a copy job is finished. Currently this is only posible after a backup or other copy job. The reason for this feature is to copy files to a third stage on the same remote site. The files are transported to the remote site via copy job, and after this copy job we would like to copy the files to our Data Domain. This would eliminate the need for copy jobs to our DataDomain, which for us is not a working solution because of the transforms take to long.
2) Wildcard/filter selection of files. Use filters like *.vib or *.vbk in a specific path.
Regards,
Bastiaan

Re: Feature Reqest: File Copy job additions
This should be possible with PS scripting in place. You can just write a simple PS script that executes file copy jobs one by one and schedule it via Windows Scheduler to run on whatever interval you want to.1) We would like to schedule a file copy job after a copy job is finished. Yes, with scripting you can achive it but that wont be intergrated in the Veeam GUI, lacking good monitoring, status, reports ext. Also with scripts, errors can be made. An intergrated "Veeam" way to handle chained file copy's after an copy job is desired.v.Eremin wrote: This should be possible with PS scripting in place. And I would like to add anther feature:
3) Incremental file copy. Only copy files which have changed since last copy (archive bit or date stamp).

Re: Feature Request: add options in file copy job
Have you considered using Veeam Cloud Edition in this case? It’s smart enough to copy only new/changed files, and the whole process can be automated via “Backup plan”.b.vanhaastrecht wrote:And I would like to add anther feature:

[MERGED] Wildcard in File Copy Job
I still found no answer.
I'm using Veeam B&R Version 9.0.0.1491.
I'd like to copy a specific file 2 times a month but the filename is always changing. Is there a possibility to use a kind of wildcard (items to copy) in file copy job?
Thx

No, currently you cannot use wildcards in the file copy job.

1. Transfer only changes
2. Delete in the target files and folders that have been removed from the source
Without these settings the file copy job is unfortunately not usable for us.
Thank you!

[MERGED] Exclusions in file-copy job. Support ID: 00356794
Hello,
i'm sys admin in a hostpital and we use Veeam B&R 9.5.
We have a very critical software called "Ensemble" made by Intersystems.
It's run on a cluster of 2 VM that are behind one IP adresse.
The 5 disks (drive D:\, E:\, F:\, G:\, H:\) switched from one vm to an other regarding the availiability of the system.
That software is very critical for the hospital because it enable medics to have access to patient's medical files, exchange messages between few databases.
So if a problem come, we are unable to fully restor the system, that's all the hostpital that is in danger.
Hospital will simply be unable to welcome patients, heal them (emergency included)
We tested all backup solution and the only one that works is file-copy.
In fact, Classic VM backup make the cluster and both VM unresponsive.
We havn't other solutions to use than File copy.
My problem is as follows:
On the drive G:\ the system create 2 files and keep them constantly in read-only; Intersystems confirm to me those files serves as temp for hosting variables and codes and so it's not necessary to backup them.
Right now, The backup fails on those 2 files because they are in read-only and keep by "Ensemble".
So i must exclude those files from the file copy but it's not possible because exclusion is not possible under file-copy
The only way is that veeam developpers come to us with an update to enable the functionnality "file-exclusion" under file copy job
thanks in advance for your help,

Re: Feature Request: add options in file copy job
Hi Philippe-Alexandre, haven't you considered using Veeam Endpoint Backup? That would allow to avoid file locking issues with either image-based backup of the entire VM or even file-level backup.
Also, when do the VMs feel unresponsive, during the initial or the finalizing stage of the backup?

BTW, if we speak about Veeam Endpoint Backup and a possibility to use it instead of Veeam B&R, can you please tell us what kind of disks do you use in this VM, just local volumes?chapepa wrote:It's run on a cluster of 2 VM that are behind one IP adresse.

Re: Feature Request: add options in file copy job
hello and thanks for your help.
At first happy new year 2017!
For the support here the ticket number: 02026716
@foggy and Vitaliy,
The 5 disks are not physical but logical ones created in a DELL COMPELLENT San (fibre channel), that's why, when we
tried VM backup, Veeam could not backup them.
Veeam appears not fully understand logical volumes...
i can post few screenshots for better understanding but i don't know how to do with the editor...

Re: Feature Request: add options in file copy job
I looked for Veeam Endpoint backup and it's not a working solution because veeam indicate themself on the product summary, that it's not for server cluster.
It's for end-user desktop and laptop...
I don't want to loose my time more by explaining things i already tested for a simple feature that sould be present since the start of the product.
A file-exclusion feature is a basic stuff that sould be availiable on all backup type (not only VM backup but also file copy job and tape jobs)
It's not only for me but also for the product be more convenient and scalable...

Then you should look at its evolution, Veeam Agent for Windows 2.0, which will provide full server support.chapepa wrote:I looked for Veeam Endpoint backup and it's not a working solution because veeam indicate themself on the product summary, that it's not for server cluster.
Your request is clear and thanks for providing your feedback. However, as you might already know, we prioritize requests based on their demand and value to the product, so while this is definitely on our list, it may have other more important features ahead of it.chapepa wrote:A file-exclusion feature is a basic stuff that sould be availiable on all backup type (not only VM backup but also file copy job and tape jobs)

Re: Feature Request: add options in file copy job
Since you want to back up files/folders only, you can still use VEB and do not wait till VAW 2.0 comes out. By saying that VEB is solution for end user computers with no support for clusters, we mean that you cannot protect cluster metadata and then restore the cluster as it was before DR. In your case VEB should do it's job.

Re: Feature Request: add options in file copy job
Hello Vitaliy,
I tested Endpoint backup on a test server but i have an error before the installation.
It's not compatible with windows server 2008
The problem is the intersystems license we have is for a 32bit OS.
So we don't have the choice to install a Windows server 2008 32b (SP2)
Do you have a solution?

No, the minimum Windows OS version is 2008 R2.
