SQL U-Air Howto Multiple Instance Restore

Post by RMullis »

I have been testing SQL U-Air restores and everything is working great except I can't figure out how to restore a database from any instance but the default "MSSQLSERVER" instance. We have 3 instances on our servers. I have tried adding the instance name at the end of the server name but it still only sees the default and I am missing many of the non-default in the list. How do I connect to other instances?

Thanks,
Rick

I was re-reading the U-air manual and I think I may have just passed over what I needed. It states to just click the browse button, which I have not tried. I was thinking that would just show all SQL server like the SQL management console. I am testing right now.

I found I must append instance name to NATed address like below:

Backup server name: 10.212.1.20\<instance>
Production server name: <fqdn>\<instance>

but even though I have a domain controller in application group i still had to use SQL Server Authentication.
