Veeam Backup traffic

I have several switches. On a switch is the management network, on the other switch the VMs.
Which Ports are used from Veeam to secure the VMs?
Does the full traffic over the management network?

Hello Roman,

It can vary. Depends on your proxy type and Veeam backup deployment. If you're using direct SAN access/HotAdd modes, then backup traffic will go through the storage and ESXi I/O stacks. If network proxy is used to backup your VMs, then VM traffic will go through the network where your proxy resides.

If you could give more details in your setup, that would be highly appreciated.

Thanks for the feedback.
The Veeam Backup Server is a single server and not virtualized.
This accesses the vCenter and safely so the VMs.

Do I understand correctly, best to install a proxy on the VMware environment?

In order to get faster performance rates (source data retrieval) it is indeed recommended to have a virtualized proxy server. See our sticky F.A.Q. on more info on this.

As to your current setup, then VM traffic goes to the backup server first via management network and then to the repository. Thanks!
