Run Veeam Backup for AWS Job from Veeam PowerShell

Post by Tos »

Hi
Our prospect customer want to run Veeam Backup for AWS Backup Job from Veeam PowerShell.
As a method, customer integrated it with Veeam Backup & Replication and they thought that Veeam Backup for AWS Backup Job could be executed by the "Start-VBRJob -Job'Job name'" command from Veeam PowerShell.
However, after executing this command, the following error occurred in this Veeam Backup for AWS Backup Job and job is failed;
---------------
Job has been stopped with failures. Error: Failed to create target for the job 'Job name', targetType: 'VmbApiPolicyTempJob'
---------------
(Of course, if we start this job manually from the Veeam B&R GUI screen, it will work fine.)

Is this behavior by desing ?
In the command reference below, it was stated that "Cloud Jobs" is supported, but is the "Start-VBR" command not supported ?
https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ml?ver=110

Let me know.

Hello,
the point is, that the Veeam backup for AWS "jobs" are not really backup jobs. If you just run "get-vbrjob", then none of the AWS jobs is listed.

Agree, the documentation is a bit confusing (I will ask for an update). Example 2 of Start-VBRjob shows what it means... a VMware Cloud Director job.

Maybe the REST-API of Veeam Backup for AWS can be an alternative for you https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/vbaws ... tml?ver=40

Best regards,
Hannes

Usually, when we do support managing entities created by other solutions (e.g. Veeam Backup for AWS/Google/Azure) in Powershell, we highlight it in the documentation. See this article as an example. Cloud jobs, as Hannes emphasized, refer to backup jobs created for vCloud Director entities meaning that these jobs are added in VBR itself. Thanks!
