Backup job on Backup server

Post by staun »

I have a folder on our primary backup server that I want to have a 10 year backup plan for.

For this I thought I could just add a new backup job, select the needed folder only. But when the job starts it fails with VSS not possible as it tries to make shadow copy of the disk where this folder is located and on the same disk we also have Veeam system folders.

Any ideas on how I can make a copy of one folder only on this server. ?

Error message:

Hello,

That sounds like a technical issue. We cannot investigate such issues through a forum topic.

As basic troubleshooting you can start with checking the VSS writers to see if one of them has failed (KB2041, vssadmin list writers).
For this I thought I could just add a new backup job, select the needed folder only. But when the job starts it fails with VSS not possible as it tries to make shadow copy of the disk where this folder is located and on the same disk we also have Veeam system folders.
Are these files "backups from a another product/script" or Veeam Backup Files? For Veeam Backup Files, you must use a backup copy job. For "other files", you can also use a File Backup Job instead of Veeam Agent for Windows. It will also rely on VSS, but it won't require Veeam Agent to be deployed. Make sure to point this backup jobs to another location and not another folder on the same machine.

Best regards,
Fabian
