[RETENTION DOUBTS] - Case #07785132

Post by CarlosEsteves »

Hello,

I have a doubt that is unclear for me since long time ago.

Let´s assume that we have a backup job (Windows agent backup), that is doing backups of server in a protection group.
Retention is: 7 days for daily backups; 4 weeks for weekly backups; 1month to the monthly backup and I have set in the Storage part of the policy the option " Maintenance - Remove deleted items data after 35days "

Servers under backup of that policy were deleted from the infra and because of that I can´t keep the policy activated or it will fail daily saying that the server is not available.

After disabled it, I can see that the retention points are not expired automatically.

Is it the correct approach ? How to solve it and have the data deleted ? ( only manually ) ?

Case #07785132

Thanks

Hi Carlos,

I apologize for the delayed response.
The case you shared refers to Veeam Backup for Azure. Did you mean to share a case related to Veeam Agent for Windows?
Is it the correct approach?
Yes. Please note, Deleted Item Retention Policy does not apply to backups with GFS tags.

Veeam Agent, Managed by Backup Server; The behavior is similar to the Deleted Item Retention Policy of VM backups.
Veeam Agent, Managed by Agent; The background retention job handles the removal of backup files.

If you observe a different behavior, please open a case for Veeam Agent and share the case number with me.

Thank you,
Fabian
