Feature Request: time-based automatic complete deletion & 'delete from disk' for unreachable systems

Post by edison5000 »

Feature Request: after X # of days of a system being unreachable by Veeam, a way to automate the deletion of the machine from Veeam entirely, including its protection group entry *as well as its disk backups/chains* from any repositories.

This may seem counter to the idea of 'preserve some backup state at all costs', but - here's an example. Using our previous backup product, we eventually ran into the problem of tons of machines that were not backed up over X # of days, and the central IT group could not keep up with tracking down the statuses of all those systems in satellite admin groups. So before our last product went EOL, we had probably 3000 systems with some degree of data backed up in storage, but only maybe 1000 of those were actually live and in use.

Yes, this sounds like an inventory/tracking issue, which could be solved a variety of ways, but it would be super helpful if we could set an automatic purge of systems entirely, after a preset amount of time. : ) Again, this would remove any kind of machine from a protection group if it hasn't already, as well as any backups it has in a repository.

Thanks! : )

Hi Edison

Thanks for the request.
I believe your request is similar to our „Remove deleted items data after“ function. It doesn‘t remove the agents from the protection group, but it removes the backup files.

Automatic removing from the protection groups could be done by powershell today.

Thanks
