One Time Archive of Selected Data
Hello,
One of our divisions that uses Veeam backup wants to permanently remove a subset of content from their file server, but have it archived offsite for a period of time in case they discover they need it. We already have a weekly full / nightly incremental Veeam backup running, and a Veeam Copy job to an offsite repository. Is there a way to create an archive job on the Veeam Copy job's destination repository to archive just the subset of data they are requesting? <And then they could just delete that content from the file server?>

Hello,
in general: Veeam works image based with snapshots. Image based / snapshot based backup per default means, that the smallest unit is one machine / VM.
But as you posted in the "physical & cloud" forum... you could use a second job (assuming you have a paid license) on the agent and only backup that folder.
Best regards,
Hannes

@HannesK, thank you! That makes perfect sense. I believe that will work! Thanks again for the tip.

One clarifying question: there's no way to cause Veeam to fully ARCHIVE the data, correct? The user wants to have data MOVED to the backup based on date <i.e. all files saved prior to three years ago>. I don't believe that is something Veeam does.

Hello Tim,
Veeam B&R and Veeam Agents backup data from the source despite the data age. For example for backup agent you can manually define the scope of files/folders and even configure exclusions but it's not possible to backup specific files based on their age. Cheers!

Re: One Time Archive of Selected Data
I remember customers doing the following workaround:
1) mount a backup (restore files)
2) copy that folder to a place named "year xxxx"
3) delete that "year xxxx" folder from time to time
it's outside the software without any retention - but "good enough" for some smaller use cases.
