Allways overwrite tape

Post by Lex »

Hi,

With veeam 8, how do i get it that if a tape is in the drive it will allways be overwritten?
Now it seems to append the job.

From the guide i understand that it is normal behaviour, minimal retention of 1 although do not protect data has been set.

From other posts i do understand that with veeam 7 people did write a powershell script to have this working, but those examples do not work with veeam 8 powershell.

Regards,

Lex

Hi Lex,
Try to set these options in the media pool properties:

Media Set Options > Do not protect data (cyclically overwrite tapes as required).
Retention Settings > Create a new media set for every backup session.

Hi,

Thank for the reply.

Those are both set that way:

Media Set Options > Do not protect data (cyclically overwrite tapes as required).
Retention Settings > Create a new media set for every backup session.

The tape job is configured as secondary destinations for the backup job.

Lex,
Can you create a new test media pool with the described settings with only one tape media assigned to this test media pool and check the behavior? Thank you in advance.

As soon as the customer office opens i can test it, but that will be next year. No the tape streamer is awaiting... and no one around to push the button.
