"Append" option no longer set for daily GFS backups

Post by mma »

Hello Veaam

It's a bit weird...

I have at least 3 customers with "waiting for tape" backup jobs. All of them request a new tape for the daily GFS backup.
The weird thing is, that all of those customers had the append option enabled for the daily backups. The option in now unset for the daily sub media set.

I'm not aware that someone of our company changed those setting (it's a bit hidden in the GUI).
For met it looks the software changed this setting by itself. This scares me a little bit.

I am the only one with this issue?

Thanks

Hello,

very unlikely. I remember bugs with updates that changed things, but I cannot remember "random changes" from the past
I am the only one with this issue?
hard to say... probably more than 100k customers are using tape... what did support say (case number)? Because they know about technical issues :-)

Best regards,
Hannes

Did not open a support case ... yet.
I still try to find out where the issue comes from.

It might be append, export media set, scheduler... :-)

@mma, I strongly recommend open a support case and post the case number here.

During the log export, ensure that you set the time range to reflect when you first noticed the issue and maybe about a week before.

Support can check the logs and see if manual changes were performed by a specific account; to set a correct expectation, it won't be much more than "this account on this day edited this option", but if it happened, at least you can understand that such a change was done.

There are not any known issues where the append option gets changed as best I can remember, so my initial instinct is that it perhaps got changed manually, but that's just a guess. The logs should help to narrow this down. Please be prepared that Support might need to ask for a few additional logs in case the issue isn't captured in the initial log bundle.

Please also note the job name, as checking the job's logs can help to narrow the scope of the investigation.
