Cleaning up backups recovered from tape.

Post by chrisholdredge »

Imagine that I restore a backup from tape to a repository, then perform a file-level restore from that restore point. What determines how long the restored backup file will be available in the repository?

Will the original backup job's retention policy eventually remove the backup from the repository? Should I remove the file manually once I'm done restoring files from it? If so, how? Most of what I can find suggests that just deleting .vbks from within the Files view can cause issues, but I don't see anywhere where I can remove it in a more orderly fashion

Hi,
Will the original backup job's retention policy eventually remove the backup from the repository?
No, it won't as the backups are under the "Imported" node do not fall under renetion. The best way to remove an imported backup is to use the console the same way as you would do it with regular backups.

Thanks
