Hello,
We currently save every month to LTO7 tapes (about 15 cassettes every month).
As FileServers and Exchange continue to grow in size, we'll be purchasing a new LTO9 Tape Library in the new year.
With older LTO versions I know that writing/reading is guaranteed with the current version, and that only the previous older version is readable. Therefore we should also keep the current Tape Library in order to be able to restore (read) the 500 backup tapes made with Veeam in recent years.
Is there the possibility, through some tool or a particular job, to take the backups from LTO7 and transfer them to LTO9?
The saved data is of entire VMs, as well as of servers saved with Agent (Exchange, SQL, ...), of AIX, and File-to-Tape.
Thanks in advance for the replies.
Kind regards
Gianluca

Hi Gianlucca
Veeam can copy tapes for you. Does this help your request?

Re: Copy Backups from old tapes LTO7 to new LTO9
Good Morning Fabian,
thanks a lot. very speedy
yes, I think this could work.
Later I try copying some LTO7 tapes to LTO7 to simulate future work.
I'm aware it won't be a quick job, but I imagine it will work
Thanks for the precious help
Have a good day.

Re: Copy Backups from old tapes LTO7 to new LTO9
Hello Fabian,
I tested it and it works very well. I took 2 tapes that weren't too full, and since the content of one of them wasn't complete, he suggested adding a third tapee as a source.
The copy isn't super fast, but it worked.
The only thing I saw is that then going under "Backups" - "Tapes", and choosing the "Job", it no longer offered me the original tapes in the choice for a possible restore, but only the copy.
I moved the "Media Pool" cassette, and then it brought back the original tapes.
Is there a way to show both the original and the copied tapes in the choice for a restore?
Since I didn't see the originals, I also followed up with a "Catalog", but it didn't bring any benefits.
Thanks again for the help.
