Decommisioned backups to tape

Post by jround »

When we remove a server from our VM environment I generally take a final backup through Veeam first, then delete the job, remove the files from the Veeam configuration (as in they get moved to Disk Imported so I just right click and remove) then have a dedicated folder full of these backups on disk

Now just for peace of mind I would like to set up a tape set where I can offload this folder to a set of tapes as we obviously have to keep the data for x years

Can I set up a job so I can initially copy this entire folder across to tapes then I could delete the decommisioned backups from disk to free up space as in reality it is unlikely we would need them very often if at all, but then in the future append extra files to the same set of tapes?

Apologies if this makes no sense whatsoever!

Yes, you can use a file to tape job and backup the entire folder with your old backup files on it to tape:
