Support Case [ID# 02363727]
Hi,
We currently have a separate media pool for daily and weekly backup jobs, our weekend job looks like it runs out of space and requests a new tape but I can see that it creates a new media set (probably because the %date% variable and the time is different to the original media set creation time)
We have been told by technical support that we should run the job on only one drive and disable parallel processing, this does solve the problem but an 11 hour backup to tape job is definitely not acceptable in any circumstance, especially when we have paid the extra for a dual tape drive.
Can I please have some assistance with this?

Re: Extremely Slow Tape Backups
Hello Tom,
Parallel processing consumes more tape media because tapes are written simultaneously. When it comes to new media set creation both tapes are considered as closed even though there might be some free space left. Kindly, take a look at this Help Center article for more details.
