We have recently purchased a large number of tapes for our library and our standard practice is to perform a long erase on each tape before putting into service due to previous issues, we also perform a long erase at the end of a tape's life. At present it isn't possible to queue a tape erasure job while the library is in use for a backup job, it fails with "Error Unable to perform Tape erase for library TPL-01: cannot lock tape drive". This means we have to wait to start the erasure job until all other tape jobs have completed, which is late in the night so we typically miss the whole overnight period which could be used.
Ideally we should be able to start a tape erasure while another tape job is running and it should queue like other jobs if the tape library is not immediately available.

Re: Feature Request: Allow tape erasure jobs to be queued
Hi Thomas.
Noted our feature request!
As a solution for current state, you can add a Post-Job Script to the tape job, that will run Erase-VBRTapeMedium script of choice.
Just make sure to remove tapes that already erased from the script, or they will be triggered for erasure over and over again
/Thanks!
