Feature Request: Backup NTFS encrypted EFS file

Post by Kazuha »

Hi! I found I can't backup NTFS encrypted EFS file, and someone had already posted this problem
https://www.reddit.com/r/Veeam/comments ... ted_files/

This is my log:(Not contain personal data, these files are all EFS encrypted)
[17.07.2022 12:13:51] <38> Error Failed to open file [\\?\GLOBALROOT\Device\HarddiskVolumeShadowCopy16\files\EXAMPLE.pdf] for reading.
[17.07.2022 12:13:51] <38> Error --tr:Failed to write file from stream to tape
[17.07.2022 12:13:51] <38> Error [TapeBatchFileBackup] An error occurred during the backup: K:\files\EXAMPLE.pdf. Reason: Access is denied.
[17.07.2022 12:13:51] <38> Error [TapeBatchTransfer] Error: Access is denied.
[17.07.2022 12:13:51] <38> Error Failed to open file [\\?\GLOBALROOT\Device\HarddiskVolumeShadowCopy16\files\EXAMPLE.jpg] in readonly mode.
[17.07.2022 12:13:51] <38> Error --tr:Error code: 0x00000005
It seems Veeam doesn't support EFS files at all, so will Veeam add this support in the future?

Hello,
backup of EFS encrypted files with "file-to-tape" works, if you solve the "access denied" issue.

The software runs as "LOCAL SYSTEM". So one needs to give LOCAL SYSTEM permissions to access the files. Here is a description how to do it

Best regards,
Hannes
