It is obvious, that for a small single tape drive users change the tape manually by hand.
So there are several use cases with errors. i will call them error cases.
Error Case 1:
User has to change tapes every day, monday to friday.
Sometimes a users changes to a wrong tape, e.g. friday on monday.
Software should detect this by a defined Job which is run many hours before the backup job.
Say Backup will start at 20:00 (8:00pm), the Tape should be checked at 12:00 (am).
If wrong tape is inserted, it should fire an exception which sends an e-mail out to the user, correcting his fault.
So user has time from 12:00 am till 20:00 to correct his fault. If tape is insered until 20:00 backup will be able to run as desired.
Error Case 2,3,4:
Same as Case 1,
- but for not inserted tape
- but for write protected tape
- but for full tape
- other error
- cleaning needed
- etc

Re: FEATURE REQUEST: Tape insertion check
Poweruser,
If the wrong tape was inserted tape job simply wont use it. For tape job you must select a target media pool with all desired tape media listed. If tape was not assigned to the Media Pool it's not going to be used and tape job will continue to wait for the correct tape to be inserted. Check this Help Center article for more details. Thanks!

Re: FEATURE REQUEST: Tape insertion check
I know that.
But then it is far to late. So i miss one day of backup!
I want to get 2 informations from my backup software (which backup exec can do for me..):
1: notify user to correct tape BEFORE its to late and job is missed
2: notify user if it is too late or there where errors while writing tape or verifying so admin can do sth. the next day.
Actually it is just far too simple :-(
