Job tape with reverse increment
We have a job backup to tape based to jobs reverse increment.
The job tape is executed approximately 2 days. If the job with reverse increment is launching between this 2 days, the tape job restart a second job to the tape.
Exemple :
the last Job Reverse 1 is executed at 1pm.
the job tape 1 executed at 3pm (job reverse 1 is finished)
At 5pm the job tape 1 copy the job reverse 1
At 7pm the job Reverse 1 executed (job reverse 1 to tape is finished and the job tape 1 is always started to another job reverse)
When the job tape finish the job reverse in curse and the job Reverse 1 is finished, the job tape copy 1 more job reverse 1 to tape.
More info :
The ticket reference is Case # 03174169
For next version it's possible to add a option to not lauch 2 same jobs or vbk file in the same job tape ?
Thanks.

Re: Job tape with reverse increment
Sorry, but from your description it's not clear how many jobs you have, and what do those jobs have, could you elaborate? Thanks.

The case is not in English, so we cannot make sense of it unfortunately. It also seems to be closed already, so, probably resolution has been provided. Thanks.

Re: Job tape with reverse increment
It's closed but not found best solution. The support advise ask the forum to see it's possible add an option to the futur version.
Option is when you launch job to tape, the backup job add to this job is protected once and not 2-3 (dependly the backup reverse start since job tape work).

Re: Job tape with reverse increment
I apologize for misunderstanding, but it's still unclear what exact functionality you're after.
If you want to have tape job executed only once a day (not each time when source backup job runs), you can set a daily schedule for it.
Thanks.

Re: Job tape with reverse increment
I create 4 jobs and juste not 1 job. But the best is one job and add the option to new version for tape if one job reverse execute since job tape run, the job tape not add twice same job.-

Re: Job tape with reverse increment
Erard,
To make sure I've understood your request correctly: you would like the tape job to filter the backup files that were processed by another tape job (to avoid duplicated data) or your want to prevent tape job from locking the backup files that are already processed by another tape job? Thanks!

Hi.
it's not to the same job twice (reverse increment) on the same job tape when it's processed. If a job backup reverse increment run when the tape job is already processed, the job tape restart a second backup with new file backup created by reverse increment. Thanks

Re: Job tape with reverse increment
Hi. Let me try to clear your situation. You have one tape job which processes several reverse incremental backup jobs (job1, job2,..). It takes the tape job about 2 days to copy all source backups since they're full backups. In the middle of tape job's run, backup from job1 is already copied to tape and that job1 starts while the tape jobs processes the other tasks. The tape job notices it, adds newly appeared full backups to it's list and copies them as well, which you don't want it to do. Am I right?
If it's correct, than this behavior is by design. You may try to split source jobs between several tape jobs (which was probably already being made, you say you have 4 jobs now). Also please consider using GFS media pool instead of standard one.
