Good afternoon, we are going to use the Veeam B&R V10.
I am interested in the issue of data recovery from long-term storage tapes.
Let's consider the situation, in 2020 we recorded a directory with files on LTO-7 tape.
Ten years later, on another server with another instance of Veeam B&R V15 installed (let's say), we needed to recover data from that tape.
Can Veeam recover data?
Thank you!

Re: Long-term storage and recovery from tape.
Hello,
and welcome to the forums.
Nobody can predict the future, but V10 can also restore backups from the first version. So yes, we are backward compatible.
Actually you don't even need a full blown VBR... we write backups to tape in the Microsoft tape format. So every software that can read that format can restore the files.
Then you can use the extract utility even without the full software: https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ml?ver=100
Best regards,
Hannes

Thanks for the answer.
That is, you want to say that to recover historical data from tape, it is enough to have only the tape and any software that can read the Microsoft tape format? I understand correctly?

yes, plus the extract tool to extract data from the Veeam files (we just copy our VBK / VIB files to tape)
