I'm having an issue with tape offload.
Customer has a daily backup job, with 1 active full backup on Saturday, forward incremental on all the other days.
After the backup to disk, we do a tape offload.
For the tape offload of the incremental backups, we have 1 tape for each day of the week, so a Monday tape, Tuesday tape, ...
Problem now is that we keep serveral backup chains on disk.
First Monday, no problem: it writes the .vib on tape
But the next Monday, when we reuse the tape of the Monday before, Veeam writes the .vib of this week, but also the .vib of last week.
Is there a way to tell Veeam it only, and always, needs to put the latest incremental on tape, instead of all incrementals that are not on tape?

Re: Overwrite incremental tape - only latests VIB
What retention is specified for both backup job and media pool the tape job is pointed to? Also, how media set creation options look like?

Re: Overwrite incremental tape - only latests VIB
We have a retention of 18 restore points for the backup job.
The media pool of the tapes for incremental backups has a retention of 5 days (because we are not interested on having the incrementals of 2 weeks ago on tape, we overwrite the tape each week).
We create a new media set for every backup session.

So, the situation looks expected. See my explanation provided in the adjacent thread.

Re: Overwrite incremental tape - only latests VIB
Ah good question and answer!
Just a side question... once the retention period is over, it seems that the when that tape is selected it is entirely blanked, and then started fresh. This is the correct process, right?
Is it possible for the overwrite to only overwrite the oldest vib that has been removed from backups, and keep all other current vib's, or is the tape overwrite an all or nothing procedure?
