Hi,
Assume I have forever forward backup to disk jobs, with NO encryption set at the job or repository level. I then have a weekly tape job which synthesises the full backup to tape - is there a way to encrypt that tape? I have noticed there are no options for encryption in the tape job properties.
Or put another way, assume my disk job DOES have encryption at the job level, would a synthesised backup to tape automatically be encrypted?
I have read this (https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... tml?ver=95) but it does not mention synthesised backups, especially when going across media (from disk to tape) so I don't want to assume anything.
Also, if my tape drive supports hardware encryption, would I expect to see an option to turn this on/off in Veeam? If I browse Tape Infrastructure > Libraries > Quantum > Drives > "Drive 1" > Properties ... I get a single window with only options to set; the block size and enable/disable the drive. Or is drive encryption only configurable in the vendors tools?
Lastly, if I find my drive does support encryption, will Veeam know about it? ie. When running a tape job I see the line "New tape backup session started, encryption: disabled" - will that line still show if I have hardware encryption turned on?
Thanks in advance.

Re: Q. Tape encryption: synthetic fulls?
- Encryption key should be specified on media pool level
- During virtual full backup encryption key specified on media pool level will be applied to tape backups
- There is a note in tape job session, describing encryption type used (software or hardware)
Thanks.
