In our test, We're backing up M365 to a local S3 bucket on PowerScale (lacks the versioning and Object lock features) but it works just fine. Then we use Veeam B&R to backup the S3 bucket to tape and that is successful without issue. But when I try to restore the S3 bucket from tape back to it original bucket, I can't. I get errors. Failed to restore file RepositoryConfig.0000000001 and bunch of other files. When I hover over one of the errors, it says" S3 error: The requested functionality is not implemented." What does that mean? However I can restore the S3 bucket folders/files to a local disk and then use S3 browser to upload everything to the bucket. Any idea why it fails to restore from tapes directly to the original S3 bucket?
The other thing I don't understand is, last say I have s3 bucket going to tapes for few years, and I've been asked export out a pst of an ex-employee that was terminated 3yrs ago. How do I go about doing that from tape? Where do I restore the data from tape? To local disk? A separate s3 bucket? And once I do that how do I open that data in Veeam Explorer for Exchange to view the data and do export to pst file? Hope that makes sense.

Re: Restoring S3 bucket from tapes
Hello Gujumax
All technical issues must be investigated with our customer support. We cannot solve it via a forum topic.
Please contact customer support and let me know the case number.
Please note, the scenario „backup and restore of VB365 buckets with VBR“ is currently not supported by Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365.
It may work, but no guarantee from us that you will be able to restore any data.
In case it works, then objects have to be restored in the exact same way to a bucket from the same object storage provider or vendor. The bucket has to be added as a new object storage repository to a VB365 server. And you need to make sure that the original M365 organization is still configured in the backup console.
After those steps you can use the backup console to start a restore.
Best,
Fabian

Re: Restoring S3 bucket from tapes
What about backing up and restoring M365 data from SMB?
I just ran a job to backup the M365 data from SMB to tape in Veeam B&R and it threw a warning message about the files being used by a different process.
Any idea?
