should tapes automatically re-insert after eject?

Post by kwj@msi-group.com »

I have an HP Ultrium tape drive that does eject tape after the job is complete (as intended), but after a few seconds, it sucks the tape back in. Is this supposed to happen? Anyone have any tips to get around this?

Hello KWJ

Are there any running jobs which require a tape? Can you see something in the logs in the Veeam console?

I've only ever seen this behaviour on drives where the tape isn't being fully ejected ... usually due to the mechanism wearing and tolerances starting to get sloppy. The drive ejects the tape, but the tape is physically at the point where the drive itself can't determine if its on its way out or on its way in. After a power cycle (or perhaps a mount command to the drive?), the drive perceives the tape is being on its way in and does an assisted mount in its normal way.
