Tape Drive parallelism with Repositories as Source

Post by gmcoburn »

Hello,
We have recently acquired a new tape library with multiple drives. We are running Veeam B&R 9 with Update 1.

Is tape drive parallelism possible for a single Backup to Tape job where the backup sources are multiple Veeam Repositories?

For example if a backup to tape job targets two repositories located on a single repository sever, is tape parallelism performed?

The backup jobs being held on the repositories are not per-vm, but are a combination of both Incremental and Reverse Incremental backup types.

The media pool would be a normal media pool type with the parallel processing enabled, not a GFS media pool.

Ideally I would like a single Backup to Tape job target all of our repositories and use all tape drives that are available to it.

Regards

Correct. In your case multiple jobs will have multiple backup chains which will be processed by one backup to tape job in simultaneous fashion. Thanks.

Thanks Vladimir.

I had read the help pages but it wasn't clear to me. So, to be clear, even though the backup sources are Veeam repositories, will it make a new media set for each Backup Jobs or Backup Copy job that reside on each source repository , or does it create a media set just for each repository as they are treated as a single Source Job of the Tape Job?

Thanks

Nope. Source settings do not matter. What matters is media set creation settings specified on a media pool; kindly, check this page. Thanks.
