Currently putting Veeam in place to replace our current Tape Environment. Currently we are doing a weekly incremental and monthly fulls. We must maintain a one year retention, and after a year we a full one year archive set(no expiration).
Is the best Veeam implementation going to be a mixture of GFS and Simple Media Pools?

You can actually use two simple media pools with different retention option: one for monthly fulls and another for weekly incremental.
