Tape Job Fails - Tape not Exchanged

V8.0 We run 2 backup jobs followed by backup to tape on the weekend.
Job 1 completes successfully and ejects the tape.
Job 2 Fails with the message Tape not Exchanged even though the previous job ejected the tape.

V7 the tape job would wait until Monday morning when the correct tape was inserted, and then continue with the tape backup.

Also with V8 the tape backup takes much longer (about 1.5 times as long as V7)

I am using a LTO 5 drive with LTO 5 tapes.

Do the source backup jobs use reversed incremental mode or does the tape server have some public IP by any chance?

Jeff,

Regarding the error you received, please take a look at this KB, it would help you to apply a fix. It seems you library changer does not support media return to non original slot – the solution is described in the bottom of this article: Tape requires return to original slot , but it is already filled. Move tape manually, and retry operation

SP1 for V8 seems to have solved the tape exchange problem.

As for the poor tape performance, I have noticed that others seem to have the same problem. we went from about 85MB per second to 54MB per second after the upgrade to V8. Nothing else changed. Tempted to downgrade and re-test with V7 to show that it is a V8 problem.

Jeff,
Please double check if the compression was enabled in backup to tape job properties? If yes try to disable it and let me know the results.
