Tape over multiple days

Post by FNUK19 »

So I have a small environment (20VMs or so) backing up nightly via incrementals to a NAS with a full done every Friday
After the NAS incrementals are finished, they are replicated to my tape-drive (an HP 8 tape autoloader)

This weekend is a Bank Holiday in the UK, meaning that there will be no-one here to change tapes on Friday or Monday nights.

My autoloader has enough space to load all the tapes I need

1x Thursday night (incremental)
4 x Friday night (full)
1 x Monday night (incremental)

But the question is is Veeam intelligent enough to figure out that's what i've done and is there a specific order in which the tapes need to be loaded?

Hello and welcome to the community ICT,

Can you please clarify you setup:

- Are you using single media pool to keep all the tapes?
- What's the schedule for your backup to tape job?

Thanks!

Hi,
No, I have 2 media pools - one called "incremental" that contains 4 tapes (monday, tuesday, wednesday and thursday) and then one called "media pool 1" that contains all my other tapes

week 1 tapes 1-4
week 2 tapes 1-4
week 3 tapes 1-4
period 1 tapes 1-4
period 2 tapes 1-4 (all the way through to period 12 tapes 1-4)

The dailys are used for the incrementals, the week 1-3 are used once every 4 weeks and the period tapes are used every 4th week and then kept for a year

It would be really useful if Veeam had a way of enabling me to put Thursdays tape, the 4 week end tapes and then Mondays tape all in at the same time.
