Hello,
During our periodical DR recovery test, I noticed a time-consuming quirk on the tape recovery UI. When I had made a selection of VMs to recover to staging disk, I could not mass-select them and choose the "Point in Time" button for all VMs - it was greyed out:
Only when a single VM is selected, the point-in-time button becomes available and the desired date can be selected. However, this needs to be repeated for each VM.
Does anyone know if this is by design? We have prioritized our servers, and in a DR situation (or specific tape set test) we want to recover our critical servers first, from whichever date. Selecting them in the restore wizard (about 100 VMs) means a hundred times clicking the 'point in time' button and going through the list. It would be great if I can just select them all, and choose point-in-time once.
Could be I'm missing something, in which case I'd love to hear it as well.

Re: Tape recovery UI suggestion (or question): mass-selection point-in-time
Hi Jeroen
Your screenshot is not working. But I understand your request.
Bulk selection is difficult, because you have 1 restore point per VM. And the creation time differs between the single restore points.
We would need some logic to decide which restore point should be used for each VM. One before your chosen point in time? The one after your chosen point in time? What happens when for one VM a restore point would be used which is 23 hours older than the other ones?
Services could depend on the right choice. Which isn't possible if you as the administrator cannot choose which exact restore point you need.
Have you tried with PowerShell? They are not supported anymore, but still working. You can query all restore points and choose the right one: https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ml?ver=110
Thanks
Fabian

Re: Tape recovery UI suggestion (or question): mass-selection point-in-time
HI,
I understand. It's apparently not as easy as, say, bulk selecting a host or datastore because those are always static and recovery points are not exactly. If I look at my recovery points on tape, they're all made one the same day, but they indeed vary in time (only minutes or hours, but they do vary).
The powershell option did indeed come to mind, but I dismissed that when I saw the 'unsupported'-sign, though it seems that this technology will not be removed anytime soon (otherwise it would say 'deprecated' or some such). I'll see if I can use that to prepare for the next DR test.
Thanks, Fabian.

Jeroenix,
Try Restoring Entire Tapes: you can pull all the data stored on specific date (yes, that's going to be unsorted), but it looks like this might help you with DR test scenario.
